Through failure, we learn how to succeed

At the start of the Body Blog I set several targets to complete within a 3 month timescale – at the end of the 3 months, I’m come some way to achieving those targets, but have not achieved them all. Absolute failure? I think not. I’ve been putting off this blog for about a week now, because I hate failing – and at first, I thought that not achieving these targets was an absolute failure but through every failure, we learn how to increase our chances of succeeding next time. So, instead of dwelling on not achieving the targets, I’m going to look at how far I am to achieving these targets and what is now a realistic deadline for them. Deadlines are important, but when you don’t meet them – it’s time to pick up, move on and get there eventually. Better late than never? You bet!

1. Toned Arms
In hindsight, this was quite a vague-ish target and knowing what I know now – I would definitely have made this target more definitive with a proper means of keeping track of where I am. However, when I started the Body Blog my arms were average – now they are more toned and filling my t-shirts more. The same t-shirts I wore 3 months ago, so I’m quite content to say that even though this target isn’t a great target, it’s been achieved.

2. Get a 6 Pack
When I work out, or get up in the morning – my abs do show. They didn’t before and for that, I am pleased. However I wanted to get a bonified 6 pack and I haven’t really got that because my body fat percentage is high. Diet plays a massive role in getting a 6 pack and I know I have the muscles there, it’s just there is slightly too much fat surrounding them for the muscles to show through as I wanted them too. All is not lost, I’ve increased my cardio and have cut down on the amount of food I’m eating over the past few days. I’m eating healthy – just too much healthy food for a 6 pack!

3. Slam Dunk
I wanted to be able to slam dunk, and I still do want to – but at the minute, I’m not able to. I can however put the ball in the basket and hold on to the rim in the same movement, but it’s lacking the impact and style I wanted. To achieve this I need to be able to jump another 2 inches higher I think. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working my legs out a lot with skipping, jumping squats, lunges and calf raises. It’s over the past few weeks that I’ve noticed that I’m getting closer to the rim, plus the Body Blog took place over the winter in the main part therefore over the next few months I will be continuing to do the exercises on my legs that I believe have increased my jumping height and get out onto the courts more to play basketball. After all, the weather is picking up and if I can play more basketball that has a double effect – it acts as a cardio workout that will help me decrease my body fat percentage to achieve a 6 pack.

4. Own workout
This idea has evolved and changed and then evolved some more. I started out wanting my own workout plan that I could tell to the world, now I want to use this website as a platform to give people not only my own workout, but other workouts that can help them achieve the results they want to. Not only that, I want my own diet plan with a book telling people how to best use the diet plan to achieve their goals. The site has come on tremendously and I am proud of it now, although there is much work to be done. As long as I continue to work hard on the site – I believe this will happen, but it takes time to get a good product out on the market and I do not want to rush it.

The Body Blog has given me the motivation and inspiration to get on the road to success and at the minute, I feel like I’m running towards the finishing point – but I’m not there. Therefore I’m going to carry on blogging, but not daily and achieve my goals hopefully within the forthcoming weeks. I’ve given myself another month to achieve the 6 pack and the ability to slam dunk, but as far as having my own workout and diet plan go – that could take a few more months. Rest assured – it will happen.
