Burnt, exhausted and it’s going to get 10 times worse!
I woke up this morning at around 10am and thought, “I’d still be on the road for the 3 City Challenge right now”. That was after about an 8 mile jog around about 24 hours previous that left me feeling burnt and exhausted. I’ll be the first to admit I absolutely hate running! It really defies the whole logic of signing up to an 82 mile ultra-marathon you’d think? Check out the sunburn on my shoulders, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of you suggesting it isn’t that bad – but I went running in England and got sunburnt! Never has that happened before to me!
Ever seen the Bucket List film? On the back of that I wrote a bucket list and added running a marathon to my list. How many people run marathons? Quite a lot really – not that I’m taking away anything from the achievement of runningĀ a marathon, in fact it’s an incredible feat. I wanted to go one better and do an ultra-marathon, it goes against all of the advice on the internet I can possibly find considering I’ve never run a normal marathon and did I mention, I don’t like running?
But I have come round to the fact I need to man up a bit if I’m ever going to make 82 miles, after all the practice I did yesterday was only a 10th of what is to come.
I’m in the process of setting up a dedicated site for the 3 City Challenge – details will be on here when that is completed. I’ll also be posting some advice on marathons and ultras on here over the forthcoming weeks.
