Is the Bird the Word this Christmas?
A Facebook group is launching an audacious attempt to get a 1963 hit by The Trashmen to the top of the UK charts this Christmas. The song is Surfin’ Bird, which Family Guy fans will know instantly as Peter Griffin becomes fixated on the song to everyones’ annoyance in the episode, ‘I Dream of Jesus’. After the song featured on Family Guy in 2008, it charted at number 50 – it’s highest ever chart position.
The group follows suit of last years Facebook campaign which saw Rage Against The Machine clinch the Christmas number 1 spot with Killing in the Name ahead of X-Factor winner, Joe McElderry. It happened in 2009, but the success of this Facebook campaign will no doubt inspire several other campaigns to start up for 2010 potentially causing too much competition to cause an upset for the second year running.
Family Guy has over 16 million Facebook fans worldwide and the group will need the support of every Family Guy fan in the UK to help it achieve the number 1 spot.
